Support San Diego's Community
Various Ways to Support Your Local Schools
The budget cuts in local schools are serious and affect essentially everybody whether it’s directly or indirectly. As a result of our business success, United Auto Body is committed to giving back to the community and to our local schools. We encourage other businesses to do the same. Here are just a few ways that businesses can help local schools:
- Donate money directly to learning foundations set up by the schools. Learning foundations, usually organized and run by parent volunteers, focus on educational programs provided to the students. These programs may include field trips, onsite presentations and assemblies, computer labs, sports programs and class projects.
- Purchase school supplies and distribute them to teachers at local schools. Often times, teachers are not provided with the necessary school supplies for projects. In turn they make personal sacrifices by using their own money to teach our children. Teachers are historically underpaid and should be supported by the community. Donations of supplies are appreciated by teachers.
- Encourage employees to bring in “Box Tops for Education” from General Mills products. Each box top is worth 10 cents. Collecting these over time will add up, and these can be mailed directly to local schools.
- Set up your grocery store reward cards for schools to receive money. Many grocery stores donate money to schools when you designate a participating school to receive the donation. You can contact the school of your choice for additional information.
- Participate in fundraisers as a business sponsor. Whether you purchase magazines, cookies, candy, wrapping paper or gifts from local students, their schools get a portion of the proceeds. This is a good way to purchase gifts for your clients, employees and vendors during the holidays and for other special occasions.
- Participate in fundraisers as a business sponsor. Have a book drive at your business and encourage employees to bring in gently used books. The books that are not needed by the school library may be turned over to the public libraries for their shelves or for a public sale.
- Contact local schools to see what specific needs they have. Schools have various events throughout the year. Events may include sporting events, red ribbon week, staff appreciation week, rummage sales, jog-a-thons, and auctions.
We, as a collective whole, can make a difference in the lives of many. Supporting our local schools is a wise choice. Your business reputation and goodwill will flourish as a result of your generous giving.
